FRANNY & ZOOEY READING GROUP

facilitated by Dr. Monica Mikhail and Dr. Dena Fehrenbacher

We invite you to join us in reading and discussing our Fall 2024 Community Read.

The two parts of J.D. Salinger’s Franny and Zooey – the short story “Franny” and the novella Zooey – were first published in The New Yorker in 1955 and 1957, respectively, and published as a single text in 1961 by Little, Brown. Following two college-age siblings disenchanted with a self-indulgent world, it repeatedly provokes us to consider, among other things, the difference between acquiring knowledge and acquiring wisdom. We’re excited to read this complex text together, alongside our Fall 2024 semester theme “Religious Life and the University.”

This reading group will meeting monthly, during lunch hour. You will find the reading schedule below. Feel free to drop in to the meetings that best suit your schedule (i.e. you do not need to commit to attending all monthly meetings). This reading group is open to the general public. RSVP is requested as lunch will be provided.
